Browser compatibility

This site displays best on Firefox 1.5 or later, Netscape 7 or later, or Internet Explorer 7 or later. On Internet Explorer 6, some animations will not display and some graphics may be slightly misaligned. On old or text-only browsers, care has been taken to ensure that all content is still readable. However, some formatting and images will be lost.

Technical details

Our old site used browser detection techniques to change the code of the pages to best suite the browser being used to display them. Although this created better results for certain old versions of Netscape, it often made things worse for other browsers (such as text-only browsers or page readers for the hearing impaired) and it also made all the pages load more slowly.

Our new site uses standards-based coding practices based around XHTML and CSS (also known as style sheets). This ensures that our site is not only backward-compatible, but also forward-compatible with new browsers and viewers.

If you are using an old browser, such as Netscape 4.x, you will see a more generic version of our site without background images and colour and layout styling. However, you should still be able to view all the pages of our site without any errors or missing text.

No matter what browser you use, we would appreciate hearing about any problems you encounter. If you receive a Javascript error, encounter a page with obvious formatting problems, or come across a broken link, help us improve the site by emailing the webmaster.
