Administrative history
Mennonite immigrants arrived from Russia in 1924 in the Vineland area. Until 1934 the Mennonite Brethren and General Conference Mennonites worshiped together in rented facilities. The Mennonite Brethren families of this group organized their own congregation in 1932 with 27 charter members and joined the Ontario Mennonite Brethren Conference that year. In the autumn of 1934 the Mennonite Brethren congregation rented facilities in Beamsville. In 1937 almost half the members moved to Virgil/Niagara-on-the-Lake area. The remaining group purchased their own meeting house in Vineland. This building was expanded a number of times until 1952. In 1960 a new meeting house was completed in a new location. This building was expanded in 1969. In 1961 the membership stood at 294, in 1980 at 301, and 215 in 2000.
The leaders of the congregation were: Johann Dick (1932–1933), Gerhard Mathies (1934), Dietrich Klassen (1935–1936), Gerhard Reimer (1937), Heinrich Wiebe (1938–1939, 1949–1956), Peter Dirksen (1940–1948), Aron Wall (1957–1959), Henry Voth (1960–1963), John Schmidt (1964–1968), Jay Neufeld (1969–1973), Isaac Block (1973–1981), Gerry Ediger (1982–1985), Murray Unruh (1986–1990), Harold Loewen (1991, 1993–1995), Helmut Koop (1992), Henry Wiebe (1996–2001), Doug Schulz (2002–2005), Tom Warner (2005– ).
