Isaac A. Willems (1896–1979)

Biographical sketch

Isaac A. Willems (1896–1979) was born to Abram Willems and Sarah Fleming in Jackson County, Minnesota. In 1899 the family moved to Canada and settled near Waldheim, Saskatchewan. In 1913 he became a member of the Brotherfield Mennonite Brethren church. After attending Bible School in Herbert, SK, he began farming in the Brotherfield area. In 1935 he married Elizabeth Derksen. The family moved to Saskatoon in 1953 after retiring from the farm due to health reasons. He died in the Saskatoon hospital on August 1, 1979.

Scope and content

This fonds consists of two small diaries written by Isaac A. Willems.

Custodial history

After the death of Isaac A. Willems his widow gave the diaries to her brother, Henry G. Derksen, who passed the diaries on to his daughter Julia Neufeld of Winnipeg. She was in contact with Jake Peters who had made it known to Julia that he was looking for family information and documents. Jake then passed the diaries on to the archives through Conrad Stoesz.
