Franz Peter Froese (1883–1983)

Biographical sketch
Franz Peter Froese was born on February 11, 1883 in Andreasfeld, South Russia to Peter Kornelius Froese and Maria Loeppky Froese. He was baptized and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church on May 24, 1904. After three years of service in the Vorstei (forestry service) he married Anna Lepp on January 6, 1908. In the spring of 1909 he and his wife moved to Omsk-Post, Siberia where he worked as a bookkeeper in his father-in-law’s flower mill. In 1924 they immigrated to Canada, settling in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan where they farmed until 1937. After they lived for two years in Ontario, they moved to Manitoba where Anna died in May, 1947. The following winter, Franz moved to British Columbia and on December 7 he married Maria Penner who brought with her seven children from her first marriage. She died in January, 1967. In May 1972 Franz moved to Donwood Manor in Winnipeg where he lived until his death in 1983.

Scope and content
The material in this collection contains 47 unique stories and recollections written by Franz Froese. The material documents life in Russia, the trip to Canada and life in Canada, and friends and relatives of Franz Froese. The material is all typed in the German language.
