Biographical sketch
Peter Dyck was born April 3, 1821, and lived in Tiege, near Tiegenhof, West Prussia. He married Agatha Regehr (Jan. 24 1815 – Apr. 3, 1886), daughter of Bernhard Regehr (1781–1830) and Anna Peters (1783–1852) on July 12, 1849. Peter was Agatha’s second husband. Her first husband was Jacob Entz (1809–1848) and together they had seven children.
In 1869, Peter Dyck went on a trip to Russia where he visited various Mennonite and non-Mennonite villages and settlements. Peter, his wife, and four children (Catharina, Agatha, Peter, Johann) immigrated to the United States on board the S.S. Rhein, which arrived in New York on July 1, 1876. Peter died May 7, 1885, and his wife the following year on April 3, 1886.

The material in this collection consists of three travel diaries of two trips that Peter Dyck took. All the material is handwritten in the German gothic script.
