Biographical sketch
Bernhard Dick was born on June 26, 1895, in Lichtfeld, South Russia to Johann Dick (1866–1943) and Elisabeth Harder. When Bernhard was seven, his mother died of pneumonia. Later his father remarried.
Bernhard was baptised while he was teaching in Sovorovska. In March of 1920, he was married to Gredel Reimer who was born on October 19, 1895. The new couple and moved in with his parents. Here their oldest two children were born. In 1924, the family immigrated to Saskatchewan, and in 1927, settled in Coaldale, Alberta. In total eight children were born to Bernhard and Gredel. In 1975, Gredel passed away. Bernhard continued to live on his own and moved to Ontario in 1983. In November of 1984, he moved into Tabor Manor in St. Catherines, Ontario. Dick passed away on January 10, 1986, and the funeral was held in the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren church.
Scope and content
The one item in this collection is the article written by Dick about the Mennonite experience during the Russian Revolution and how the Selbstschutz (self defence unit) was involved. The item is typed in German.
