Administrative history
The beginnings of the Regina Chinese Community Church grew out of the decision by the Saskatchewan Mennonite Brethren Board of Church Extension, to start a Chinese church in Regina. Stephen Lee, from Vancouver, called the first planning meeting, and provided various kinds of support. The objectives were to reach the local Chinese community and foreign Chinese students; to provide both Chinese and English language classes; to provide a channel for Chinese Bible students to have practical ministry experience. Two couples were committed to providing leadership: Lemuel and Leona So, and Chris and Kitty Wong. Invitations were sent to all Chinese residents of Regina and posters were hung in post-secondary schools. The opening thanksgiving service was held November 9, 1986 at the Peart School, 2715 Ottawa Street, Regina; Stephen Lee preached. Languages of worship are Cantonese, Mandarin and English. Regina Chinese Community Church remained affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren Conference until it closed in 2004.
The leaders of the church included: Chris Wong (1986-1992), Alfred Lee (1996-2000) and Raymond Lai (2001-).
Scope and content
This fonds consists of records written primarily in Chinese languages and includes financial records, statistical reports, minutes from business meetings and various committees, baptism, marriage and funeral records. Also included are records of special events, correspondence, constitutions, bulletins, and other miscellaneous records.
