Administrative history
Mennonites started settling in the Atlantic region after WWII. The first family was one which returned from MCC service in Europe. Then MCC set up service assignments in Newfoundland and the Mennonite Brethren Conference in Nova Scotia. As a result contacts were made and some of these people decided to stay. However, there were never enough to form a congregation. Others over the years joined them in professional positions throughout the area.
In the 1980s the Mennonite Brethren decided to plant churches in the region. They sent workers specifically for this task. Congregations were formed in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. In 2000 there are three congregations in New Brunswick and two in Nova Scotia.
Scope and content
This fonds contains minutes (1992–1993), reports (1991–1992), brochures (1976, 1992), and a brief history (1976) which pertain to the development of the congregations in the Atlantic region of Canada. It documents some of the leaders and participants in these Atlantic Mennonite Brethren congregations.
Custodial history
Records were transferred to the Centre for MB Studies archives in Winnipeg, Manitoba on a regular basis.
