Administrative history
The Point Grey Inter-Mennonite Fellowship congregation in Vancouver, British Columbia began in 1986 as the Pacific Centre for Discipleship Association for the purpose of operating the Menno Simons Centre. A number of these University students decided to start the Point Grey Fellowship (PGF) at the same time. The church was officially organized in 1987. In 1993, the congregation decided to distinguish itself as a Mennonite congregation but also to embrace its dual-affiliation status by changing its name to the Point Grey Inter-Mennonite Fellowship (PGIMF). Founding members included Ema Friesen, Henry and Hilda Hildebrand, Ed and Heide Hintz.
The congregation maintains dual membership in the Mennonite Brethren (since 1987) and Mennonite Church Canada (since 1992) denominations. In 1995 there were 49 members, and in 2000 there were 54.
Congregational coordinator, Janice Kreider, served in 2002 as a congregational leader. The church does not have paid pastoral staff. They rely on volunteer worship coordinators and a pastoral care committee; worship is in English.
Leaders of the congregation include the following: Henry Hildebrand, Palmer Becker (1988–1990), John Friesen, Karen Peters, Andres Pekovich, Edward Kehler, Herb Reesor.
Note: During the years 1965–1968, another Point Grey Mennonite Fellowship existed, most of whom were university students from Mennonite Brethren churches in Vancouver. This group had loose affiliation with the MB Conference but declined membership. Then in 1967, the group requested that any responsibility to the Mennonite Brethren Board of Reference and Council (Home Missions) be considered to be non-existent. They met for a while in the YMCA, and they were also known as the West End Mennonite Brethren Fellowship for some time as well.
