Foodgrains bank celebrates milestone anniversary
Canadian Foodgrains Bank celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. Founded in 1983 as an expansion of MCC’s Food Bank, the organization that calls itself a “Christian response to hunger” is a partnership of 15 Canadian church agencies working together to put an end to hunger.

For 25 years, the Foodgrains Bank has delivered more than $500 million in programming in 76 countries around the world, shipped 1 million metric tonnes of food and seed, and received $134 million in donations from Canadians. The Canadian International Development Agency provides up to $20 million per year.

“We welcome our supporters, volunteers, and friends to celebrate with us as we honour the past and look forward to the future,” says Jim Cornelius, executive director. “Our vision is a world without hunger, and though we have done a lot of work in 25 years,…our work is far from over.”

The Foodgrains Bank held commemorative events in locations across the country, including banquets in Winnipeg and Ontario, and a Corn Maze fundraiser in Lacombe, Alta.
