Fair trade: A human journey

Éric St-Pierre, photojournalist
Les Éditions de L’Homme, 2010
240 pages

Fair trade: A human journey is not only a visual feast, but an education. The richly coloured coffee table book is weighty in fact and in scope, beginning with a historical overview of the fair trade movement, then exploring 13 fair trade products (including handicrafts, coffee, rice, and guarana) through photos; statistics on markets, prices, and locations; and the stories of individual producers and cooperatives. Mennonite Central Committee’s Ten Thousand Villages features several times throughout the book.—KB

“What is an Anabaptist Christian?”
Missio Dei no. 18
Palmer Becker
Mennonite Mission Network, 2008
26 pages

Published by Mennonite Church USA, “What is an Anabaptist Christian?” is clearly organized around three “sacred cores” of Jesus, community, and reconciliation. In this downloadable Missio Dei series booklet, missionary and professor Palmer Becker compares the core convictions of Menno Simons with those of Constantine, Augustine, and Luther. While MBs may find Becker’s contrasts between the emphases of “many Christians” and “Anabaptists” too polarized, the discussion questions make this a user-friendly resource for adult Sunday school groups, membership classes, and Bible studies. Becker’s goal is to provide readers with the tools to ask themselves, “Am I an Anabaptist-minded Christian?” – to which MBs can respond with a hearty “Yes, and more!”—AS
