The boots pictured once belonged to Elmon Lichti, a Mennonite conscientious objector during World War II. They will be displayed in an upcoming exhibit on the history of peace advocacy to be held at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa next year.  Lichti, a resident of Tavistock, Ont., entered alternative service in 1942 and worked on the TransCanada Highway as well as planting trees on Vancouver Island during his years of service. He died in 2005.
