Introducing speakers for Assembly Gathered in Paraguay
Outgoing and incoming Mennonite World Conference presidents will speak at evening services at Assembly Gathered 2009 in Asunción, Paraguay, July 14-18. Current president Nancy Heisey
will open the assembly with a keynote address on Philippians 2:1–11, and president-elect Danisa Ndlovu will close the week speaking on the same theme.
Assembly Gathered will conclude Sunday morning, July 19, with a mass outdoor rally on the theme, “On the way together; first stop—Asunción.” Alfred Neufeld, theologian, professor, and MB minister in Paraguay, will preach.
Speakers and Bible study leaders include Elfriede Verón, Nzuzi Mukawa, Ditrich Pana, and Chris
Marshall.
Verón teaches at the Instituto Bíblico Asunción, a regional campus of Universidad Evangélica del Paraguay, and is working on a PhD in education.
Mukawa is academic dean and professor at the missiology school in Kinshasa, and associate pastor of Batela, MB Church of Kinshasa.
Pana is president of the Convención Iglesias Evangélicas Unidas – Enlhet Paraguay. He speaks six languages, and studied in the Instituto Bíblico Indígena in Yalve Sanga, Paraguay. Pana preaches in his mother tongue, Northern Lengua, on his radio program, Hora del Evangelico (Evangelical Hour).
Marshall was involved in the leadership team of the London (England) Mennonite Fellowship and since returning to New Zealand has retained close links with Mennonites in Britain and Australia. He is the author of books and articles on biblical and ethical themes, and is involved in the restorative
justice movement.
Other presenters include Antonio Gonzales, Jenny Neme, and Elizabeth Soto.
