Transitions
 The Historical Commission, a binational agency of the U.S. and Canadian MB conferences, appointed Andrew Dyck as executive secretary effective Jan. 1, 2011. In this quarter-time role, Dyck replaces Abe Dueck, who served as interim executive secretary since the resignation of Ken Reddig in April 2009. Dyck will continue as pastoral elder at Highland Community Church in Abbotsford, B.C., while also working on PhD studies at the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague. Roger Thiessen began as lead pastor at FaithWorks, Winnipeg., Oct. 1. He holds an MDiv from MBBS and has previously pastored at Fairview MB Church in St. Catharines, Ont.; Westwood Community Church in Winnipeg; and most recently served 1 year as interim pastor at Richmond Park MB Church, Brandon, Man. Roger and Wanda have 2 daughters.  Laurence Hiebert began as English pastor at Mountainview Grace Church, Calgary, Aug. 3. Mountainview Grace Church is a multilingual MB church located in Chinatown in downtown Calgary with worship services in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. He will work alongside Chinese pastor Joseph Sun. Laurence studied at Bethany College, Hepburn, Sask.; Trinity Western University, Langley, B.C.; and MBBS, Fresno, Cal. He served 22 years with MBMSI in Japan until 2009. He pastored part-time at Bethany MB Church, Fresno, from 1985–1988. Laurence and Leona have 3 children. Dan Macloskie began as youth pastor at South Park MB Church, Altona, Man., June 15, 2010. He has a BA from Steinbach Bible College, and has worked in summer camp ministry for several years, and as residence dean at Mennonite Collegiate Institute, Gretna, Man., for 1 year. Dan is married to Lisa.Alejandro Arturo Avila and Adrienne Wiebe of Edmonton are serving 3-year terms with Mennonite Central Committee in Mexico, Avila working as migration researcher, Wiebe as policy analyst/educator. Avila obtained a bachelor’s degree in electronic technology from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Edmonton, and a masters in project management from the University of Lethbridge, Alta. Wiebe obtained a BA in history and geography from the University of Winnipeg, a masters in geography, and a PhD in anthropology from the University of Alberta, Edmonton.  Anthony Henderson began as ministry coordinator at College Drive Community Church, Lethbridge, Alta., Sept. 1. He has a BA in theology from Briercrest College, Caronport, Sask., where he served as student body president from 2008–2010. Ministry coordinator, an associate staff position, is a designing and vision-casting role focused on overseeing young adults, youth, and children’s ministries.614 St Jamestown, a downtown Toronto church plant where members and ministers live and worship in a multicultural high-rise neighbourhood, has changed its name to Hope Community Church. Pastor Kevin Moore has served the congregation since its inception in 2005. They meet for services on Saturday evenings in a community space, and have a variety of community services and programs during the week.  The board of directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeff Siemens as executive director of Redberry Bible Camp. Jeff served as associate director at Redberry for the past 2 years. Prior to that, he served for 4 years as youth pastor at Hague Mennonite Church and 2 summers as program director at Youth Farm Bible Camp in Rosthern, Sask. Jeff and Jennifer have a daughter, Maelle.On July 19, following eight years of service, Bob Enns resigned as senior pastor of Grantham MB Church in St. Catharines, Ont. He is pursuing further ministry opportunities.  Kevin Koop began as pastor at Blaine Lake Gospel Chapel Oct. 12. He graduated from Bethany College in 2009 with a BA in biblical studies and pastoral ministry. As a Bethany student, he completed an internship at Forest Grove Community Church in Saskatoon, working in the area of adult discipleship. Kevin is married to Emily. |
