The Canadian conference endowment fund allows you to give an ongoing long-term gift to a chosen ministry. The gift is given to the Canadian conference to be invested with the net income paid to the ministry of your choice. An endowment fund can be set up during your lifetime or by an estate gift made in a will.
History
- established in 1898 to provide funding for the support of an independent foreign mission work begun by the MB Church
- began with $50,000 which was invested in loans to churches
Purpose
- to provide a giving vehicle that will produce a long-term income stream for a chosen MB ministry

- to provide a memorial fund in memory of a deceased family member or friend
What can be contributed?
- a cash gift
- a pledge, over a period of time
- real estate, securities, or other property
- a bequest, remembering God’s work in your will
What are the benefits to me?
- You can benefit from tax savings and lower estate probate costs.
How does it work?
- The endowment fund may be set up during the donor’s lifetime or by an estate gift made in a will.
- The gift will qualify for a tax-deductible donation receipt.
- The gift is given to the Canadian Conference of MB Churches with the direction that it be invested and the net income paid to the ministry chosen by the donor.
- The gift is administered by the Canadian conference board of management, as trustee.
- Special wording is used to redirect the gift if a ministry ceases to exist.
- Net income is paid out periodically to the designated ministry. The donor may change the designated ministry during his/her lifetime.
How are the gifts invested?
- in capital loans to Canadian Mennonite Brethren churches and church institutions
- in loans to pastors and conference workers
- in bank or government securities or deposit accounts
- in high quality corporate securities
