Advent Conspiracy is a resource for churches to engage more fully in authentic worship and giving at Christmas.

It was started in 2006 by five pastors who decide to make Christmas a revolutionary event by encouraging their faith communities to Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More, and Love All. The challenge was to spend half of what was usually spent on Christmas gifts and give the other half for water projects. The response was overwhelming and the Conspiracy was born.

We caught wind of this movement and are excited to promote this tangible way of encouraging radical discipleship. It calls us to proclaim Christ in our celebration of Christmas. It gives us the opportunity of becoming like the 1st- century church.

The concept behind Advent Conspiracy is simple....It starts with Jesus. It ends with Jesus. By spending less, we have the opportunity to join Jesus in sharing resources with others.

Consider giving locally, nationally, and internationally

A local ministry in your community

Your church can be intentional about creating and sustaining relationships. Where is the greatest need in your community? This Advent season challenge yourself to proclaim Christ in by responding to those needs. Perhaps there is an organization you are already involved with or an outreach project you can start.

Yes, we want to join! How do I get involved?

The Canadian Conference is excited about promoting it because it is a tangible way of becoming like the 1st century church. Our hope is for your church to accept the challenge and see the lives of people in your congregation and community changed forever.

So be sure to let us know that your church has decided to participate. We are excited for the possibilities your congregation will experience and would love to share in this experience with you! Click here for tips on how to get started.

What have other MB churches done?

New Hope Church (Calgary) lead pastor Kevin Carruthers said that AC was well received by their church community. They concluded it with a message entitled “Love All”. The church raised $10,000 to support a local project (Gifts of Hope) and an MCC water project in Zambia, Africa.

Dalhousie Community Church (Calgary) pastor Brad Huebert told his congregation that they didn’t have to tithe anymore. In his “Give More” message, he taught that tithing was an Old Testament law and challenged them instead to embody the virtue of generosity outlined in 1 Timothy 6 and 1 Corinthians 8-9. Approximately $48,000 was raised for MCC AIDS care kits. “God has blown away our expectations, quintupling our goal … our giving for the year is still in the black for regular church stuff,” shared Huebert.
